Gaudeamus can play blues, but it should not take the major part of its repertory, as this radio is exlusive for its jazz broadcasts. But in general, I think, the point is not so much in particular genre, as in choosing high quality music, whihc is not usually broadcasted by other stations. So if you can keep doing this with blues, so why not?
Hi, Tomas,
thanks a lot for your opinion. It is a pleasure for us to read our fans thoughts every time we have this possibility.
Yes, you are right about selection of music. I can not say we are absolutely free of blues. We like it. But we also choose the tunes thinking how it is unique and interesting. For example Bill Frissel’s album recorded together with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones is for me kind of modern and contemporary blues (we have some tunes from this album in our playlist). But critics call it avantgarde jazz.

Thanks, Simon. It is really interesting question about why blues is so far away from jazz at the same time being the roots of it? And very often people who like jazz, do not like blues and otherwise.

I don’t want to seem arrogant, but to me blues is generally to predictable.
BTW, I love your radio station. It’s the only Jazz station I’ve found so far that streams in such high quality.
Simon
